Jared Loughner who recently killed nine people and attempted to kill a member of Congress, is pleading not guilty in his trial. It's a known fact that he murdered people, including a child, and now is hoping to not get sentenced to time in jail or potentially the death penalty, but may get sent to a mental institution. The question about whether Loughner should be senetenced to a jail sentence or not should not even be an issue. They can use as a defense that he was mentally ill, but there is no evidence that he was mentally ill prior to the shootings, and it still allows him to potentially harm other people, which is why he should be sentenced to life in jail, or even the death penalty. I believe that he was completely aware of what he was doing, and there is no justification for his actions.

Oops, I meant he's killed 6 people :)
ReplyDeleteI think your right; he should probably go to big boy prison. But aren't most murderers crazy? I have never killed anyone, but to me it seems like you'd have to have some kind of flaw in your logic to be able to murder someone. I don't really understand why there are seperate jails for criminals and the criminally insane.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a very valid point, that we should not allow this man to be in a loony bin. I believe that this man is clinically insane now, even though he hadn't shown signs before hand that he had problems. He should be punished as he would have been before the incident, and put to death for the violent murder of so many people.
ReplyDeleteOf course, something would have to be wrong in your brain to justify taking someones life, but he had no real prior evidence of being mentally unstable.
